Chapman

Capturing some of the most stunning images of Dartmoor in their extensive series of postcards, the Chapman and Son photographic collection offers a legacy of over one hundred years of Dartmoor history. Owing to the intrepid nature of founder, William James Chapman, the collection offers the viewer a glimpse of Dartmoor's unseen treasures, and opens a window to its dramatic and majestic past. Dartmoor Century

The Dartmoor Archive and the Dartmoor Trust are pleased to announce that the popular Dartmoor Century 2 book is now available as an eBook. This amazing book includes pictures taken at the same location, over a hundred years after the original photograph was taken, it is possible to see how much, or how little, the moorland landscape, its archaeological sites and buildings have changed. All these images help to open our eyes to the events that have taken place on Dartmoor over a century, and remind us of the importance of collecting and preserving photographs for this generation and future generations to enjoy. The Dartmoor Blizzard Of 1891

As forecasters predict yet another harsh winter across the South West we look back at some of the worst blizzards mother nature has thrown at us. We have some amazing photographs of the storms of 1891 where people were stuck on-board a train making its way up to Princetown. You can read all about it in the book 'The Blizzard in The West' for free. The book was digitised by the Internet Archive project. It can be downloaded by clicking on the extract shown here. (7.2MB)
