Welcome to the Dartmoor Archive
The Deep Freeze of 2010

As you may have noticed most of the country is in the grips of a major snow and ice event. Temperatures on Dartmoor have dropped to minus 20 in some areas with snow covering most of the region. The Dartmoor Archive has images from most of the deep freezes of the past and there are some amazing photographs of people struggling on through the depths of winter. However, we need to think about the future! In 20 years people will be talking about the amazing few weeks early in 2010 where the temperature failed to rise above zero for a fortnight. So, it is time to send us your pictures of now!
What are we looking for?
Large panoramic views are lovely but we are more interested in pictures that snow how people are being affected, have you photos of cars stuck in ice? People taking to the Moor in the snow? Animals looking for food? Your house covered in feet of snow? These are more interesting. If you have particularly beautiful landscape pictures then we will gladly add them to the archive. If you think you can help then please get in touch.
200 years of Dartmoor Prison
Robert Burnard
The Dartmoor Archive would like to thank Mrs. Lawlor for her generosity in allowing the Archive to scan her amazing books. The work to digitise the Ordnance Survey maps that include Robert Burnard's notes is under way and is slowly being put online. Keep checking back for more in the near future!
